So I have decided to start blogging on a regular basis as it helps me to keep my thoughts and ideas in check.
Who are you?
So hey - and welcome! My name is Katy and I run The Book Matchmaker and have been running it for nearly 6 years!
It started as a little side hustle whilst working full time shifts answering 999 calls for my local Fire Service.
Over the years the business has evolved so much and I am so proud of where it is at today!
Last year 2021 I decided to apply to go part time after 15 years of full time shift work (2 days, 2 nights then off for 4 days). It was granted and I started part time shifts on the 1st of January 2022.
I realise that I am extremely fortunate to be in a position financially to be able to do this and also to have the support from my family and for that I am grateful - but also extremely humble.
2021 was the year that i made a-lot of realisations about myself and also my life. I think Covid times have made a-lot of people re-evaluate their prioritise.
In January last year my Anxiety had gotten to the point of not being able to just cope and brush it under the carpet anymore - I recognised that I needed some help. I contacted my GP who suggested i start taking Sertraline (anti-depressant) to see if it would help. After the first two weeks where it kicked my arse - I started to feel like I was coming out of the fog and able to climb the rungs of the ladder out of the hole I was stuck in. It's been a year and I can honestly say it was the best decision for me - I am still on the same dosage (and a little increase and drop back down) but i have found my level and I am happy. People will sometimes say "but don't you want to stop taking it someday?" my answer is always - I will take it for as long as I need it - if that's forever then so be it!
So what does 2022 hold for me and this little business? I have a few things in the pipeline that will hopefully come into fruition - I will share with you all as soon as I can - but they are all super exciting!
I am working on a new design for my sweatshirts and hoodies and getting them screen printed by a lovely local business - original ones will still be available.
I desperately need to re-stock the Choose 4 word Book Dates - but this involves wrapping lots - I need to pull my finger out and get on with this.
I am also keen to reduce my turnaround days for orders - I think personally this is something that makes me think twice at the checkout when ordering and will have a big impact on customers.
I already have more head space for content ideas for social media and also future campaigns which is so refreshing and fun as I love being creative.
My March Reading Retreat planning is in full swing behind the scenes and I am super excited to have Adam (Shropshire Lad) back again as I was sure October retreat was his last one for me as he has got more and more famous. Me and the girls who helped me out at the last retreat are planning a little get together soon (there may be wine!) to put some ideas in place for making the next retreat more manageable and not such hard work, we were all broken at the end of each day.
Oh also I have my gym membership back....eeekk maybe 2022 will see me get fit (or maybe i will spend time in the cafe eating brownies and drinking tea!!)
Thanks for reading
